Gambling Addiction

Gambling Addiction - The Brainwasher Of The 20th Century

It is a fact that gambling can affect you, your entire life. Some consider it a sort of virus that engulfs your entire being and doesn’t let go until you are down on your knees. This would be the very point when you realize the mistake you’ve been making. Here is a story that supports the above said:

Our home is seven miles away from a large Indian casino. I use to go to this casino together with my friends and some relatives about once a month before moving close to the casino. Now that we moved so close to the casino my  friends and relatives come to visit us on the way to the casino. We use to go there for some hours and I came to the conclusion that gambling addiction is a real issue in our area.

When I would go less often I did not notice if the same people were there from time to time. Now that I spend quite a lot of time in the casino, I use to watch people around me. In this way I managed to understand the very problem that is lurking in the darkness … gambling addiction. I also managed to distinguish these gambling addicts as they are not aware of what is happening around them. They are completely engulfed by the game they’re playing being only focused on the slot machine before them. Nothing else seems to matter. I have noticed people that will sit at the same slot machine for a very long time putting in more and more money because they are sure that the machine is going to start paying off. My sister came one morning to pick me up. We were supposed to have lunch together and to the casino to play the slots a bit. We also wanted to have our nails done at the salon that is very close to the casino. As we walked in I spotted a man that seemed very familiar. I think this man is a gambling addict. He was just sitting at a nickel slot machine. I noticed him because he was asking for some change. My sister and I played a few machines. Each time I walked by I noticed the man playing the same machine over and over again. So I made up my mind and sat down next to him. I remember asking him if he was lucky that day. He didn’t manage anything but to grunt a quick response. The slot machine in front of him seemed to have hypnotized him. I had a good spin and cashed out more than double my money. But he was doing nothing but pushing the same button over and over again putting in twenty dollar bills.

At the salon I took the chance to ask the manicurist how long she had worked there. She answered that she had been working there for two months, that she had worked in the casino prior to the salon opening. She also mentioned people suffering from gambling addictions and how some of the older women wear adult diapers so they do not have to leave their machines to go to the bathroom. She also mentioned that there were a lot of people that had lost everything due to their addiction. When we left the casino this man was still there playing the same slot machine. It is very hard and also sad for one to see that there are people that lose their entire savings because of one simple slot machine that seems to brainwash them.
